Callie's Birthday

Tiger just fits Callie's personality:)

A tribute to Callie on her Birthday a few days ago. She just turned 4 and is such a big girl!!! Here are some of the cute things Callie has done and said in the past year:

March 2009
For the past few months Callie likes to make up names for things and mispronounces a few words it is so cute. And some really cute things she said.

Neveningoose – to call you a name
Nornob - doorknob
Nuggle - snuggle
Fruntfroom – frontroom
Noberhead - to call you another name

About 6 months ago, She came out wearing black tights pulled up to her knee and said, “This is frusteerating me!” She needed help but it was cute that she used such a big word.

Callie likes to play in the water in the bathroom sink and I tried explaining to her a 3 year old that it cost us money every time we run the water and to not waste it. A few days later she had dirty hands and I asked her to go wash them and she said, “It’s going to cost you!” I busted up laughing that she had put the 2 together and remembered. Such a little trip!!!

June 24, 2009
Today Callie is sitting in the front room and says, “Dad you’re the best day in the whole world!” Matt said , “what did you say Callie?” And she again said, “Dad you are the best day in the whole world… Because you let me eat popsicles in the front room!” Matt looked at me and said I just got set up! What do I say to that? Now I can’t ask her to go into the kitchen to eat it. (She knows how to work her dad!!!)

Everyday with Callie is a laugh!!! She is our little Calster. WE also call her "Stitch" from Lilo and Stitch such a little character rolled up in a little body.
We are very greatfull that she is part of our family.

We got her a new bike. She loves to ride it with the handle bars backwards. What a silly little girl!

She got these boots from our neighbor Judy that spoils the girls. She wears them all of the time now.

7 Day Challenge

I have just recently completed the 7 Day Challenge that foodstoragemadeeasy.net put on. I thought that I was pretty prepared and we could handle about anything. Boy was I wrong. Each day they had a challenge to test our preparedness. Have in mind that we were not allowed to go to the store or spend any money for these 7 days. Here are some of the things that I learned:

The first day was we had to leave our house with our 72 hr kits and only the things on our grab list. Well I had just emptied out all of the food in our kits to rotate and so we would have had to go without food for a few days. I learned not to take out food until have bought new food to replace and need to get better food and snacks.

Day two was a pandemic and we were quarantined to our house. This one was easy as I have a lot of comfort foods and medicines already stored for a sick person.

Day three was an unexpected dinner guest that you had to make an appetizer, a main dish that was meatless, 2 side dishes, and a dessert. This one was pretty easy for me. Although I wish I would have had more fresh fruits and vegetables. I made fresh guacamole with chips, fettuccine alfredo, with cooked carrots, peas, and broccoli, and a chocolate chocolate cake for dessert. It was Supper Yummy and was an easy day.

Day four was economic crisis. We had to make bread from scratch, not use cable or cell phones, or internet. Oh yeah did I mention No Water! That was a hard one for me. Every time I turned around I was washing my hands. I do have a weeks worth of water bottles for every member in our family but that is it. I have 2 EMPTY 55 gallon drums in my garage. But they don’t help when they are EMPTY. The only hard part of the day was NO Water, didn’t do so well with that!

Day Five was an Earthquake and there was not electricity and water and our computers got fried. I learned a lot this day. I already had NO WATER! And found out that I need to get other ways of cooking without electricity. We have the dutch ovens and Matt made a lasagna for dinner which was really good. The rest of the day we ate cereal and sandwiches. I did back up my pictures a few days before but would have lost all of our other documents and need to back them up. I am going to work on a solar oven. FHPE in October is on making your own solar oven. I can’t wait.

Day six was Healthy Lifestyle. We had to make a low sugar breakfast, low fat lunch and a from scratch whole wheat and/ or legumes dish for dinner. This was a good one because I have been wanting to cook healthier to loose some weight. I made a 13 bean soup for dinner that I have been wanting to try for a while now. It was actually really good. And my Delaynee who will not eat beans ate it!!!

And Day Seven was the easiest of all, to make a dessert from scratch. But you were out of fresh milk, eggs, and butter. Thank goodness for powdered milk, eggs, and butter.

Thank goodness for those powdered items because I was out of milk and eggs from the beginning of the challenge.

I would encourage all of you to check out there website if you at all interested in getting any type of food storage or preparedness stuff together. www/foodstoragemadeeasy.net

Most of all I learned I am not as near prepared as I thought I was and am now on a quest to become better prepared. Starting with this really cool e-binder that they have that tells you step by step what to do and to buy to be prepared for anything. Oh yeah and I will fill those EMPTY water drums that are in my garage this week.

Thank you Jodi and Julie for helping me to start to become better prepared.

Here are some of my favorite picture in the last 5 months in no particular order. There are a few more but are on a DVD by Boyd Robinson (He did a fabulous job!)but my computer does not read it. So you will have to come see my scrapbooks for those. Or go to ironwoodphoto.com and e-mail me at dbushman1@cox.net and I will give you the password.

All other photos were taken by my sister in law Manda and by my friend Trina Leishman. Thank you to both of you!
